What are Pinwheels for Prevention?

The CAYA Pinwheels for Prevention Program works through its projects to strengthen the well-being of children, adolescents and families through community involvement by:

FOSTERING small acts of Primary Prevention, the often ordinary things we can all do to increase well-being,

BUILDING an awareness that EVERYONE HAS A ROLE in strengthening well-being, including school-age children from Young Fives to Grade 12.

Please consider purchasing your own garden, as a Pinwheel Supporter, Neighbor or Friend!

PINWHEEL PROJECTS:

  • April's Pinwheels for Prevention Gardens

    • Blue and Silver Pinwheels are planted throughout the community to raise awareness of well-being and preventing adversity to our youth.

    • Pinwheels remind us to create and maintain safe, stable, nurturing relationships.

    • Planting a pinwheel garden helps to support CAYA's primary prevention programs.

  • The Elementary Pinwheel Bookmark Project

    • Bookmarks distributed to elementary schools to remind students to be kind and welcoming.

    • Collaboration with CCS, CIDL, and the Friends of the CIDL--resulted in each elementary school library having 17 books that reflect and reinforce the messaging on the bookmarks.

  • The Secondary Pinwheel Bookmark Project

    • Bookmarks distributed to secondary schools.

    • New collaboration with CCS and CIDL.

  • CAYA's Pinwheels for Prevention Community Kick-off - TOGETHER FOR PREVENTION

    • Project co-hosted with CCS bringing together cross section of community members committed to the well-being of our children and adolescents.

    •  A puzzle metaphor introduced to help make visible what well-being means for children, adolescents, families and the community.

When a child walks into a room, your child or anyone else's child, do your eyes light up?  That is what is they are looking for.
